34 been promoted Eight Boy Scouts from Troop 702, Brevard-Davidson River Presby terian Church, visited the Ecusta plant July 31 to observe the equip ment and operation of a modern paper mill. Candidates for the Pulp and Paper Merit Badge sponsored by Olin, they previously had studied the principles of papermaking and had each made small pieces of paper from raw material used at Ecusta. They were escorted by Joe Buckholz, Scoutmaster, second LAUTHER (cont’d) quality projects manager prior to his recent move. Earlier work was with West inghouse Electric Co. and E. I. duPont de Ne mours & Co. A native of St. Louis where he graduated from Southwest High School, he re ceived his B. S. degree in Chem ical Engineering at Vanderbilt University. After ser ving with the U. S. Navy as an elec tronics technician during World War II, he earned his Master's and Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Engi neering at Vanderbilt. He was an instructor with the Vanderbilt fa culty for one year. He was elected to Tau Beta, honorary engineering fraternity and Engineering Who’s Who. Formerly chairman of the Nashville and Western North Car olina chapters of the American In ¬ from left at rear, and Barry Bowden, upper left. Buckholz and Bowden are project engineers in the Tech nical Department. The Scouts left to right are Brian Gilbert, Kelly Passmore (son of Harold Richard Passmore of Film’s Chemical and Casting), Ken McJunkin (son of John Edward McJunkin of Group Technical), Dennis Culin, Robert Heglar (son of James L. Heglar of Group Technical), Montey Hol combe, Kevin Culin and Todd Norris. stitute of Chemical Engineers, he is director and membership chairman of the organization's Forest Pro ducts Division. He belongs also to the American Chemical Society and the American Society for Qual ity Control, and is a former member Robert E. WHITMAN, III, has to senior project engineer in the 7 echnical De partment of the Fine Paper and Film Group. He was employed by the Film Di vision in April 1971 as a research engineer and had advanced to senior research engineer when appointed senior project engineer. Before joining Olin he worked with Douglas Aircraft Co. at Cape Kennedy, Fla., and Northrop Caro lina Inc. at Asheville. A native of Asheville where he attended schools, he earned his B. S. de gree in Electrical Engineering at N. C. State University. Additional college work was at Union Theo logical Seminary at Richmond. He is a former member of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers. A former participant with the Ra leigh Symphony Orchestra, he plays the french horn with the Asheville Symphony Orchestra and is a mem ber of Mu Beta Psi honorary musi cal fraternity. He is a member of the board of directors of the Ashe ville Christian Academy.
